in this research, the potential of ion flotation to remove hexavalent chromium from dilute aqueous solution with a rhamnolipid biosurfactant was investigated. the operating parameters, such as initial solution ph, the rhamnolipid to heavy metal ratio (c/m), and the ionic strength (nacl), have a marked influence on the performance of ion flotation, as shown in this investigation. results showed that the percentage of ion removal increased with increasing the rhamnolipid to heavy metal ratio and with decreasing nacl concentration. the removal efficiency increased with the increasing ph up to neutral value (ph 7) at first, and then decreased at alkaline phs. the maximum chromium removal was obtained 34.4% at c/m ratio 1.0, ph 7 and the absence of nacl. the results showed that rhamnolipid biosurfactants can be used as a promising collector for the treatment of aqueous solution containing chromium by ion flotation.
