in geotechnical projects such as excavations, bored pile walls are one of the most common structures for retaining the soil. these piles must be designed for lateral loads due to earth pressure, earthquake and etc. the maximum bending moment along these piles is one of the most important parameters to design because of workability of itself and adjacent structures. in this paper, gene expression programming is employed as an artificial intelligence method for developing a model to predict the maximum bending moment of piles in clayey soils. the input parameter consists of excavation depth, pile diameter, unit weight, elastic module and cohesion of clayey soil. the output consists of the maximum bending moment of pile. a database obtained from 2d modeling of a soil-bored pile wall modeled by plaxis is employed to develop the model by gene expression programming (gep).the comparison of the model prediction with plaxis data indicates that the proposed approach is accurate and robust in representing the maximum bending moment of pile in clayey soils.
