    course book evaluation helps teachers decide on the most appropriate course book to be taught. it also helps researchers discover the strengths and weaknesses of the given book. the aim of this study is to compare and contrast different parts of two english as a foreign language pre intermediate student’s book namely top-notch 1a by joan saslow and allen ascher, second edition and total english pre-intermediate student’s book by araminta crace and richard acklam, second edition, which are taught at lots of institutes in isfahan iran. to this regard 40 intermediate boys and girls who were between 16 to 17 years old and 20 male and female teachers with a good amount of experience in teaching english as a foreign language, especially in teaching top notch and total english series were asked to answer to a 40-question survey which was constructed based on the standards of american council on the teaching of foreign languages’(actfl) in terms of five porpuses:1 -communication 2-culture 3-connection 4- comparison 5- community . and also, seven curricular elements: language systems, communication strategies, cultural knowledge, learning strategies, content from other subject areas, critical thinking skills, technology and the other features. the elicited responses were classified based on descriptive analysis and then analayzed in terms of chi square. finally, the results indicated that the total english series had more numerical values than top notch series.
