a philosophical and formalistic approach on narnia’s fifth book

formalism as a critical theory is come to be known by the russians as the study of a literary text regardless of its exteriors background. to such critics, the text is rich enough to discuss itself and there is no need to follow history, biography, writer or the intention of the writer outside of it. to them, we do not read the text to find out what the writer had intended to teach us; conversely, there are no terms of instruction in the text. literariness is the only thing that matters in the text.

such literariness is only found by figurative device in the text. such literariness is what that philosophers of literature believes that make a text as literature. in this essay, however, this literariness is shown to be made by a unity, a term used by formalists, between the story and the reader. therefore, because of such connection, the text is not only about itself, it expands to the other world and shares its morality with the reader.
