healthcare quality, people retention, and the importance of satisfaction to measure health status

in iran, cosmetic surgery is an increasingly common procedure and is quite expensive. the purpose of this study was to compare the satisfaction with one's body image, self-esteem, and quality of life of individuals who had cosmetic surgery versus those who refuse to undergo cosmetic surgery.

this study used a comparative-analytic approach - employed a casual-comparative design containing the sample size for this study was 140, based on the study's objectives and methodology. where simple random sampling was used to select 70 participants who reported having cosmetic surgery (16 men, 54 women, mean age = 26.47 years, sd = 5.26 years) and 70 participants who reported not having cosmetic surgery (16 men, 54 women, mean age = 27.19 years, sd = 6.09 years). the 12-item short-form health survey, the multidimensional body-self relations questionnaire, and the rosenberg self-esteem scale were used as research instruments, and the multivariate analysis of variance (manova) was used to analyze the collected data.

the results indicated a significant difference in body image satisfaction, self-esteem, and quality of life between individuals who underwent cosmetic surgery and those who did not (p<0.05). all the findings demonstrated that individuals who refused to undergo cosmetic surgery performed better than those who did.
