a total of three beam-to-column joints for composite structural systems consisting of reinforced concrete columns and steel (rcs) beams, which are referred to as ‘‘composite rcs systems,’’ were modeled to investigate the structural performance between the two numerical and experimental models. the joint details examined were ‘‘through-column type,’’ of which the joints are reinforced by cover plates and horizontal stiffeners without beam flanges. nonlinear finite element analyses of the models were carried out under monotonic and cyclic loadings using abaqus. this paper indicates that the use of thicker inner steel panel and cover plates are effective to enhance the structural performance of the joints. furthermore, the steel panel embedded in the concrete column has much greater effect on the total capacity of the joint.
