sesamia nonagrioides (lepidoptera: noctuidae) histopathological changes induced by hottentotta saulcyi scorpion venom

the scorpion hottentotta saulcyi venom was evaluated for its histopathological alterations of the sesamia nonagrioides organs. experimental s. nonagrioides larval group were injected with two doses of h. saulcyi venom (0.50μl and 1μl) and compered with control group injected by phosphate buffered saline (pbs) up to 1μl. this study demonstrated that h. saulcyi venom is able to cause major damages in s. nonagrioides midgut epithelium and malpighian tubules. no degeneration or damage to the malpighian tubules and midgut was observed for larvae injected with pbs. the microscopic observations, of the midgut of 0/5μl doses of venom treated larvae, showed that a number of the cells was disorganized and lysed. in other hand, clear histopathological alterations of intoxication were observed for all larvae injected with 1μl doses of venom, including a distinctive lysing and disorganizing of midgut epithelial cells that coupled with a progressive loss of the peritrophic membrane and the disappearance of microvilli.
