this paper presents stability analysis of roadways of tabas coal mine of iran. the results gathered from field investigations and the geomechanical properties of rocks, were determined in the laboratory indicate that the rock masses of this area are weak. so, the excavated roadways in this area need to have suitable support. to arriving to this purpose, this roadways was modeled with flac2d software. before using flac2d software we must modify in situ rock properties of this area to rock mass properties. analysis of the results showed that the rock mass discontinuities were very important to the final convergence (longwall influence). from these measurements fdm models were calibrated to study the interaction between rock mass and support. for this purpose, hoek-brown (2002) failure criterion was used. the use of v29 and v36 section arches are under consideration. after modeling this roadways in flac2d software the results achieved from this model show that; displacements of around the roadways are high and safety factures are very low, so roadways need to be support. because of that, flac2d software cannot apply steel arches directly, so we need to calculate amounts of pressure that steel arches exert to walls and apply to software.
