a review article of the evaluation of anti-inflammatory effect of curcumin

inflammation is a severe, chronic health disorder. several theories are proposed to elucidate the mechanisms of inflammation, such as release of cytokines. anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin have been shown in previous studies. this review article aimed to investigate the effect of curcumin on inflammation disorder. the update knowledge of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory effect of curcumin is provided in this review article.

pharmacological effects of curcumin inducing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties, were searched using various databases and appropriate keywords.studies have shown anti-inflammatory effect of curcumin including decreased white blood cell, neutrophil, and eosinophil numbers, and its protective effects on serum level of inflammatory disorder.

curcumin decrease malondialdehyde and nitricoxide levels but increase thiol , superoxidase dismutase , and catalase level in oxydative stress conditions. in the immune system.studies have shown curcumin targets various inflammatory mediators such as cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitricoxide synthase, and nucleare factoe κb(nf-κb) thereby attenuating the release of proinflammatory and profibrotic cytokines and suppressing chronic production of free radicals. therefore evidence from studies suggesting the potentioal utility of curcumin for treating of inflammatory, oxidative and immune disorder.
